Located in the Irwin Mining District, Colorado, the town of Ruby was established in 1879, after silver was discovered at the Ruby Chief Mine. The Ruby Chief was said to be the first location in the district. James Brennan was the discoverer. It was 12 feet wide, and often carried ruby mineral for a width of 6-12 inches.
