Glossy soft cover. Benjamin F. Corlies, Stationer & Printer, 1858. 10pp. 9 x 5.5" Generally very good condition. The predecessor to the Rock Island and La Salle Railroad Co was incorp. in Illinois on Feb. 27, 1847 and an amended charter was approved on Feb. 7, 1851, as the Chicago and Rock Island Railroad. Construction began Oct. 1, 1851, in Chicago. 1st train was operated on Oct. 10, 1852, between Chicago and Joliet. Construction continued on through La Salle. Connected to Rock Island on Feb. 22, 1854. It became the 1st railroad that connected Chicago with Mississippi River.
