Obv.: (pictorial bear) / C. C, Julian; Rev.: New Monte Cristo / (pick and shovel) / 1927. Octogonal, 42mm. C.C. Julian was on of the most prolific swindlers in the State of California. In the early 1920s he bought marginal oil leases and promoted the Julian Petroleum company. He founded the Death Valley town of Leadfield and swindled more investors out of their money there.

He went on to the New Monte Cristo Mine in Arizona. The mining operation is listed in Wickenburg directories for 1928 & 1928. This silver medal was given to major prospective investors. The operation soon folded, Julian went on to promote Oklahoma oil fields and died in Shanghai in 1939. City: Constellation State: Arizona Date: 1927 ID# 45055
