Eight covers with letters addressed to C. C. Thomas, superintendent of the Comstock Tunnel Company. The letters pertain mostly to business, but one is a personal letter to Thomas. The tunnel was originally run by Adolph Sutro who conceived the idea that the most satisfactory and economical method of developing the various mines was by means of a gigantic tunnel from Carson River to the lode. He was granted the right-of way- in 1886 to begin the tunnel. C. C. Thomas was appointed to run the company in 1880 when Sutro resigned.
