Five stereoscope cards by Carleton Watkins, c. 1870. Each card features a pair of near-identical images. Watkins was an influential landscape photographer known for his documentation of California and the Pacific Coast. The photos show various views of the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington; the pictured landmarks include Cape Horn, Booster Rock, and the Middle Landing. Many of the pictured areas no longer exist due to the flooding of the Columbia River Cascades in the late 1930s. The cards have text reading "Watkins' Pacific Coast", along with a San Francisco address, details about the photos, and a list of available photos for purchase. [ Oregon
