Twenty-four cards featuring photos of Yosemite taken in 1867 by Carleton Watkins, an influential landscape photographer known for his documentation of California and the Pacific Coast. Watkins had a particular love of the Yosemite Valley, and his photography of the valley was influential in Congress' decision to preserve the area as a National Park.
Each card has two near-identical photographs affixed to it; these cards are meant to be viewed through a stereoscope to create an illusion of depth. The photographs depict iconic Yosemite landmarks such as El Capitan, the Royal Arches, Yosemite Falls, Cathedral Rock, and the Three Brothers, as well as numerous views of other rivers, waterfalls, and natural features in the park. There are two duplicate cards, so only twenty-two unique images are included. The cards have text reading "Watkins' Pacific Coast", along with the title and location of each photograph. While the cards have some wear around the edges, the images themselves have no damage, with the exception of one ink-stained photo. [ Yosemite California
