8" x 5". Good contrast. Photograph shows Ulysses S. Grant monument. Reverse has pencil notations indicating that this monument was erected at Trenton, MO by "his old regiment upon the same spot where he received his commission as General and mustered out the first 90 days...Sept. '91." Stamped as being photographed by W.B. Townsend, Amateur Photographer, 4315 Delmar Avenue, St. Louis, MO. During the course of his life, Townsend acted as agent for many railways including Missouri Pacific and the Denver & Rio Grande. He started as a photographer at the age of 18 in St. Louis. He worked for the N.D. Thompson Publishing Co., travelling to Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Sandwich Islands to photograph the islands as they were at the conclusion of the Cuban War.
