Rare and early Calaveras County. The location is printed in the text of the certificate: "...of the Caledonia Mining Company, Calaveras County, Cal." Inc. January 5th, 1863. No. 80, issued for 5 shares to Limmerman on Sept. 24th, 1864 in Stockton. Signed by president H. Hutchinsen and secretary E.P. Rieux(?). Not cancelled. Blue border and print. Vignette covered up by 25 cent IT adhesive stamp. Printed by the Stockton Independent. Folds, creases, nicked border. 3.75 x 9" Not in Filer or other Holabird indexes. The Caledonian mine is listed as a copper mine located 4 miles south east of Valley Springs active in the 1860s and developed by a 250 ft. shaft.
