Calhoun Mine gold, mined by Jesse Austin, c1980's. Austin was also the owner
of the Turkey Hill mine near the Calhoun. This is just about 1.5 ounces of
fine gold. The large vial has lots of impurities, thus perhaps one ounce
here. This is arguably one of the moist famous of the Georgia gold mines.
Located just above the Chatahoochee River, it was one of the discovery sites
in 1828 owned by John C. Calhoun, and was the first lode gold mine described
in US scientific publications (1833).
