Nine volume California history edited by John Russell, published in 1928. Copy 269 of 387 issued in ornate full leather. Originally the possession of Harold B. Franklin. Illustrated with woodcut prints and maps. Bound into the various volumes are 59 original signatures, mostly of "covered wagon baby pioneers" but also included are 2 children from the Donner Party, a Pony Express rider, a sea captain who sailed round the horn, and a Spanish Grandee (whose aunt's wedding in Monterrey was described by Richard Henry Dana, Jr. in "Two Years Before the Mast." Volumes are titled: "Pathfinders," "Spanish Arcadia," "The Great Trek," "Gold Days," "Songs and Stories," "Oxcart to Airplane," "March of Industry," "Land of Homes, " and "Outdoor Heritage." A very fine set with little wear besides front hinge of spine of Vol. I lightly rubbed.

(Harold B. Franklin (1889 – 1941) was an American cinema chain executive who later moved into production of stage shows and films. He co-produced the musical comedy "Revenge with Music" (1934). He produced the 1940 melodrama "The Villain Still Pursued Her.")
