The company purchased a townsite near Gold Hill which was to be developed east of Lincoln. When other railroads arrived in California, they were unable to raise the necessary funding for completing the construction. Theodore Dehone Judah was the chief engineer for the California Central Railroad. He later convinced a certain group of Sacramento merchants (Huntington, Hopkins, Stanford, and Crocker) to fund the Central Pacific RR. Placer County California
