Photograph of the Chemical Engine Co. No. 4 in post 1906 earthquake San Francisco. Five men and one small cat can be seen standing in front of the building posed for the photograph. One of the men is jokingly holding another with a fire hook. Chemical Engine Co. No.4 was organized in 1892 and located at 2114 California Street. It relocated to 451 McAllister Street in 1898. According to the 1910 San Francisco Directory, the business adjacent to the fire station is Marcus Winkler's Show Cases and Store Fixtures store. The photograph measures 11.90" x 9.90" and has some wear including stains and creased edges. The photographer is unknown. The contrast is low to medium while the focus is sharp.
