Four items concerning the California Gold Rush of 1849: 1) National Intelligencer, Washington D. C., May 5, 1849. A letter from Mr. T. McClellen explaining his success in California; On page 3 is a 10 inch column: Late From California: large quantities of the precious metal had been sent away to England, Valparaiso and elsewhere, making gold comparatively scarce at San Francisco. 2) Wells, Fargo & Co.'s Express receipt for two bars, seventy nine hundred seventy dollars, dated 1891. 3) Wells, Fargo & Co.'s Bank 1874 receipt for one bar gold, 60.20 from H. Sevening Esq. of Columbia, Cal. 4) Letter and assay receipt from Kruse & Euler of 209 & 211 Front Street, San Francisco, dated 1874 to Frank Litsch of Shasta concerning his gold dust of $917.37.
