First edition. Profusely illustrated, mostly from vintage photographs and diagrams. Published by the California Miners' Association under the Direction of Edward H. Benjamin, Secretary for the California Meeting of the American Institute of Mining Engineers. Includes chapters by Ross E. Browne (The Mother Lode), O'Shaughnessy, and W.C. Ralston. Covers mining in gold, quicksilver, copper, petroleum, as well as hydraulic mining. Includes chapters on Nevada, Plumas, Sierra, Alameda, and Fresno counties. This book surveys all aspects of California's mineral wealth and includes two chapters on the petroleum industry (with a photograph of crowded oil rigs in Los Angeles) and one on the copper industry. Among other topics considered are surveys of each appropriate county, mining organizations, machinery, and the University of California's College of Mining. The ads contain documentary illustrations and photographs of many types of mining machines in use at the time, mining scenes, logging operations, and establishments such as the Del Monte and Palace Hotels. Many of the articles have much historical material and data. Includes articles by Charles G. Yale on the Mineral Industry of California and by Ross E. Browne on the Mother Lode of California.
