No. 65, issued to company president Camilo Martin on Dec. 17th, 1872. Signed by Martin as president and secretary H.K. White. Not cancelled. Black border and print. Vignette of California state seal. Printed by Britton & Rey. 3.75 x 8.75" Pinholes, stain on left side from when it was glued in ledger. Stamped "Bancroft Library." According to a Daily Alta California article from April 25, 1871, this company formed to "mine for gold and silver in Northern Amador Lode, on the north of the Amador Mine, Sutter Creek Mining District." Thus it is not to be confused with the California Mining Co. that formed in Virginia City, Nevada in 1874 to pursue the Bonanza ores. Camilo Martin was born in Cuba, educated in Germany, and came to the Pacific Coast in 1850 during the Gold Rush. He worked in the Rothschild banking house where he remained until 1865 when he left to become a founding partner in the Bank of San Francisco. In 1854, Martin was appointed as Spanish Consul, a position he held for forty-two years. He was knighted by the Queen Regent of Spain in 1893. () Ken Prag Collection
