1) Queen Bee Mining Company Stock Certificate. Bodie Mining Dist., Cal. (printed upper left). Inc. August 1876, early for Bodie. No. 193, issued for 4,000 shares to FM Luce, trustee, on Jan. 13th, 1880 in San Francisco. Signed by president JK Bechtel and secretary GW Fisher. Not cancelled. Black border and print, ornate company logo. Lith. Britton & Rey, SF. One assessment stamp on reverse. Pinholes, folds, very fine. 4 x 8.5" Barely mentioned by Balch, 1882. Located on a hill of the same name. When bonanza discoveries were made in the Bodie Mine, investors got excited and theorized that the Bodie gold stretched from Bodie Bluff to Queen Bee Hill, similar to the Comstock Lode.

2) Carson Mineral Rubber Co. Stock Certificate Signed by Comstock Assayer Balch. Stock Number 1. "Manufacturers of Water, Gas and Sewer Pipe, Artificial Piles, Pile Armor and Electrical Subway." Inc. Dec, 1890. No. 1, issued for one share to president D.W. Balch on Jan. 5th, 1891. Signed by Balch and secretary Oakley. Not cancelled. Black border and print, vignette of pipe. Folds, toning, some stains. 5.25 x 10" D.W. Balch was an assayer in Virginia City, Nevada in the 1860s and 70s. He operated the Comstock Lode Assay Office. Our company has sold assay receipts from his work there.

3) Pacific Jute Manufacturing Company Stock. # 104 for 71 1/2 shares to E Hockstater trustee. Signed by president Brandestini(?) and secretary(?). Dateline Oakland 1883. Incorporated August 16, 1873. Not cancelled. California seal vignette. Edward Bosqui printer Pin holes. Bottom right corner torn. etc. Core of certificate in quite nice. Jute is a rough fiber made from the stems of a tropical Old World plant, used for making twine and rope or woven into sacking or matting. Plenty of ocean going sea vessels used the ports of San Francisco and Oakland and this would be a perfect place to make rope.

4) Bituminous Lime Rock Paving & Improvement Co. Stock Certificate. Inc. 1887. No. 68, issued for ten shares to secretary G.G. Johnson on April 21st, 1893 in Los Angeles. Signed by Johnson and also president G.A. Dobinson. Not cancelled. Black border and print, ornate logo. No printer listed. 6 x 10.25" Folds. Newspaper articles of the period highlight a paving contract the company was awarded for Main Street and Spring Street in Los Angeles. An 1888 LA Times article from the company says they have laid down 500,000 sq. ft. of bituminous lime rock pavement in Los Angeles.
