California and Oregon United States Mail Line, Oregon Stage Company. Waybill shows transport from Jacksonville to Yreka, July 22, 1866. Three passengers listed, including someone traveling from Portland to Sacramento. James Bell is the driver. C.C. Beekman, agent. 15 x 9.5" Folds. The Oregon Stage Coach Company was owned by Henry W. Corbett. Its major stagecoach route was between California and Oregon in the mid 1800s. In 1866, Corbett began a stagecoach company that ran between Sacramento and Portland. "What had previously been called the California and Oregon Stage Line was [thereafter] named the Oregon Stage [Coach] Company. Although changes were subsequently made in organization, the Oregon Stage Company continued to control the stagecoach business between California and Oregon until these two states were linked by rail in 1887."
