Lot of 2 different. These are the only two of the group that have both a facsimile adhesive revenue stamp and a facsimile imprinted revenue at center! 1) 1879 receipt for Dr. LC Lane. Signed by Deputy Assessor Maloney. Blue print on white paper. Lith. Britton & Rey, SF. $2 facsimile adhesive stamp in upper right corner, facsimile imprinted revenue at center. 3.75 x 6" 2) Receipt for 1885 (last year) issued for Dr. Chas Ellinwood. Black print on yellow paper. Lith. Britton & Rey, SF. $2 facsimile adhesive stamp in upper right corner, facsimile imprinted revenue at center. Signed by Deputy Assessor Gilmore. 3.5 x 6" Mahler calls these receipts "exceedingly rare." He argues that these were only indirectly related to voting and more used as a "head tax" on adult males. He has seen only 32 examples of these receipts. For more information, please see "California Poll Tax Receipts" by Michael Mahler, The American Revenuer, Vol. 65, No. 2.
