Lot of 3 different. 1) 1881 receipt for LC Lane. Signed by Deputy Assessor Macmillan. $2 facsimile adhesive stamp in the upper right. Black on yellow paper. 2) 1882 receipt for C. Ellinwood. Signed by the deputy assessor. $2 facsimile adhesive stamp in the upper right. Red print on blue paper. 3) 1888 receipt for Chas. Ellinwood. Vignette of prospector (not seen on others). No facsimile stamp. Signed by Deputy Assessor Richy. 3.25 x 6" These receipts do not have a printer listed, though earlier versions were done by Britton, Rey & Co. Mahler calls these receipts "exceedingly rare." He argues that these were only indirectly related to voting and more used as a "head tax" on adult males.
