Cabinet card showing many people gathered at the site of a nasty train wreck, with locomotive crushed and cars crumpled. Reverse is stamped Woods' Gallery, Odd Fellows' Building, Marysville, E. Nesemann, Photographer. There is also a pencil date of August 22nd, 1890. If this is correct, then the accident depicted occurred at the Cascade station in the Sierra Nevada. Freight train No. 19 reached the Summit station and stopped to couple more cars. The breaks failed and the train, along with conductor FP Kingsley went thundering down the grade where they collided with freight train No. 23 at the Cascade station. Four men were killed, including Kingsley. Comes with printout news article describing the crash.
