Rare. Inc. in California, 1924. No. 49, issued to WR Porter on Oct. 1st, 1924 in Salinas, CA. Signed by the president and secretary. Not cancelled. Black border and print, allegorical vignette. Folds. 5.5 x 9.75" The Sherwood Park racetrack dates back to the 1870s. The rodeo was first held there in the 1910s. In 1923, the rodeo paid the City of Salinas $40,000 in order to get a Quitclaim deed to the location from the property heirs. The title cleared in 1924, and the rodeo was reincorporated as "California Rodeo, Inc." A municipal bond issue in the amount of $40,000 was passed that year. It was used to build an 8,000 seat grandstand, a ½ mile racetrack, two barns, fences, and bucking chutes.
