This is a partial medal set commemorating the Official California Sesquicentennial in the year 2000. This partial set includes three 39mm, encapsulated, fine silver medals, each with a tiny gold nugget affixed to the outline of the state of California. The reverse of all three medals is a beautiful rendering of the Great Seal of the State of California. Certain features on both sides of one of the medals are selectively plated in 24-carat gold.

The set comes in a 6x8-inch cherry-finish wooden box with the words "Cal150rnia sesquicentennial Diversity" laser-engraved in the top below a 2.5-inch circular cutout where a bronze medallion with the state seal was originally intended to be mounted. The inside cover of the box is lined with ecru satin and the same words gold-foil embossed into the satin. The lower interior of the box is lined with forest green velvet into which are four wells. The three coins already described are tightly secured in three of the wells, and the empty fourth well was intended to hold a 1/4-ounce gold proof version of the design which is not in this set.

A small brass plaque inside the box says, "No. 50," however, the total number of sets produced is not known. A certificate of authenticity from Northwest Territorial Mint describes the four types of medal types that could have been included in the set, however the three that are included in this lot are all 999 Fine silver, and one is enhanced with gold plating as previously described.

This comes from the liquidation of Northwest Territorial Mint. It is similar to Lot 77110, but with a different obverse design. Date: City: Dayton State: Nevada HWAC# 77109
