Steamer Chrysopolis delivering Standard Mill flour. J Hupon received payment. The greatest Sacramento riverboat of them all, the steamer Chrysopolis, began life at a shipyard where San Francisco's AT&T Park now stands in June 1860. The Chrysopolis could carry 1,000 passengers and 700 tons of cargo. The boat's one-cylinder steam engine developed 1,357 horsepower that turned two side paddlewheels 36 feet in diameter. The Chrysopolis was the fastest boat on the river by a long shot. On New Year's Eve 1861, the Chrysopolis sailed from Sacramento to San Francisco in five hours and 19 minutes, a record that still stands. City: San Francisco State: California Date: 1862 hwac# 24846
