Sturtevant Mine Fan Co., Boston, used at the Cambridge Mine, Lyon Co., Nev. This historic fan is not without a marvelous history. Ben Franklin Sturtevant started his fan company in about 1860 on virtually nothing but an idea. Mine ventilation was always a key subject through history. By 1864 he had created the first successful mine fan and in so doing, became “the father of the American Fan Industry”, according to his biography on the web. This No. 4 fan is large, perhaps 36” diameter, and very heavy, perhaps 200 pounds +/-. The Cambridge Mine was located between Yerington and Pine Grove Nevada. These items come from the Rink family, who owned and operated the mine historically. The company files will be offered in a future sale. The mine was reportedly discovered in the 1860’s, and reopened in the 1930’s. It appears to be a mine without a district, thus is unreported in Couch & Carpenter or Lincoln.
