Camp Supply was established in 1868 in the Indian Territory to aid General Sheridan in his winter campaign against the Plains Indians. General Custer used the fort as a base for his raid on Black Kettle's camp in the battle of Washita. A post office was in operation here from 1873-1889. This is a double ring 1882 cover. Postmark his difficult to read as it is over the U163 entire stamp. The corner advertisement says return to Camp Supply via Dodge City! It is addressed to Colonel J. G. Gardiner at New York City. A rather interesting historic piece!
