Lot of 1. Canadian Pocket Diary for 1880, published by Brown Brothers, Toronto. Leather cover, 3 1/4" x 4 3/4". Includes many pp of handwritten notes chronicling a Journey from Montreal to San Francisco, passing through Toronto, Port Huron, Chicago, Quincy (IL), Kansas City, Denver, and Ogden (UT) along the way. Description of the journey concludes as follows: . . . crossed the Sara (ed sp) Nevada mountains where we passed through the Snow Sheads (sp) there (sp) was lots of snow & weather very cold freezing and in about 2 hours we were again in a warm sun we left to Sacramento and got there at 4:00 and left at 5 for Frisco arrived in Frisco this Wednesday am at 6:05 Cal time and met Tom - final -. Several pages in the back of the booklet detail what appear to be costs of items purchased along the journey. A unique insight into pre-automobile travels in the late-19th century.
