1) Hawthorne. Rarity-1, Nearly perfect strike. CC of "SHERIFF, HAWTHORNE." 2) Candelaria on reverse. Rarity-4. Excellent strike. First letter is from JH Strachan with the Pacific Coast Borax Company letterhead (in red), superintendent's office, Columbus. He is asking about purchasing land and buildings for back taxes including Hawks House in Columbus, last house on the east side of the street in Candelaria, borax works in Fish Lake Valley, etc., Strachan asks for more information. Deputy Sherriff Halligan answers on official Sheriff's Letterhead (Robert Stewart, Sheriff). Halligan gives information on the Roach Cabin, house NE of the Columbus Hotel, Charles Brown property (Hawks House), property and three horses behind the TJ Harrington saloon, etc. Two outstanding cancels, two letterheads, great content! Notes on Strachan (superintendent of the Teel March Borax Works), Pacific Coast Borax Co. and Halligan.
