This is unarguably one of the most collectible Leadville embossed bottles. It is in all probability the only western drug bottle embossed with the phrase "One Horse Drugstore". It is 3" tall, clear, clean and mint. Listed as R3 by Preble, it is rarely seen at shows. The term "One Horse Drugstore" was used possibly as early as 1800, but was in common use in parts of the United States, particularly the mid-west, by the last quarter of the nineteenth century. It's meaning is a drug store run by ba sole proprietor by himself, with the store itself in a far rural place or on the outskirts of town. It implies a drug store with few amenities, with only the basics, with only one person running the store- the lone druggist. A search of the phrase on the internet yielded six different druggists, all in the mid-west, using the phrase from c1866 to about 1913. I have never seen this phrase used by a far-western druggist -fh. This is a choice Western drug bottle. State:Colorado City:Leadville Date: ID#45367
