An 1889 collection of poetry by John Wallace "Captain Jack" Crawford, autographed by Crawford. Captain Jack, also known as the 'Poet Scout', built a reputation for himself as a popular entertainer, poet, and speaker after serving in the Civil War and Sioux War. The booklet, which was written and published to promote the New Era Exposition in St. Joseph, Missouri, contains six poems, including one written in honor of the exposition. The cover of the booklet is signed by Crawford with the words 'Complement of Author'. [
