This mine has ties to sooo many famous people. # 54 for 500 shares to HH Hochister(?). Signed by John Graham and president (?). Dateline 1879. Incorporated April 23, 1879. Location: Grand Island Mining District. In 1873 silver bricks from the Caribou mine were laid in front of the Teller House for the arrival of U. S. Grant. In 1876 the mine went bankrupt and was purchased by Jerome Chaffee and David Moffat. In 1879 Chaffee and Moffat sold the mine for $900,000 and the mine was renamed the Caribou Consolidated (the time frome of our certificate). In 1880 the mine consolidated with several other mines. Robert G Dun (namesake of Dun and Bradstreet) took the Caribou to court. His lawyer was Chester A Arthur - soon to be President of the United States. Dun won. What a history.
