Extremely rare. This is the earliest pass we have offered for this railroad! Pass No. 272, issued to WR Diffenback, auditor for the Bradford B&K Railroad. Signed by Henry Yerington as president and general superintendent. Endorsed on the back by Diffenback. Black print and white underprint on light green cardstock. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad was the parent company for the C&C, but they sold the line to Southern Pacific in 1900. As the Comstock began to fade in the late 1870s/early 1880s, William Sharon, D.O. Mills, Yerington and others turned their attention to mining in the southern deserts. They conceived of the Carson & Colorado as an affordable and efficient line to exploit those mineral resources.
