Lot of 5. The Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company was owned and operated by D.L. Bliss, Henry Yerington, D.O. Mills, and J.A. Rigby. Founded in 1872, it was the largest lumber operation servicing the Comstock. The company mostly operated out of Glenbrook (Lake Tahoe), utilizing a flume system to transport the wood to Carson. They owned up to 50,000 acres of land, two steamers, three mills, logging camps, locomotives, and a narrow gauge railroad. They eventually bought up other Tahoe lumber companies including the Hobart Estate, Nevada Lumber Company, and more. With the waning of the Comstock mining industry, DL Bliss shifted focus in the 1890s to the Tahoe tourism industry. The company was dissolved in 1947. 1) 1874 Bank of California check, red print, RN-D4, issued to Pay Roll, signed by DL Bliss. 2) 1878 Bank of California check, red print, RN-G1, issued to Yellow Jacket MC, signed by DL Bliss. 3) 1876 check to MC Gardiner, signed by DL Bliss for the company. 4) 1898 pink Bank of California check issued to German Savings & Loan, signed by Bliss. 5) 1878 Bank of California check issued to Bliss, signed by Bliss. All checks have Virginia City datelines.
