Seven checks related to the Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company, owned and operated by D.L. Bliss, Henry Yerington, D.O. Mills, and J.A. Rigby. Founded in 1872, it was the largest lumber operation servicing the Comstock. The company mostly operated out of Glenbrook, utilizing a flume system to transport the wood to Carson. They owned up to 50,000 acres of land, two steamers, locomotives, and a narrow gauge railroad. The company was dissolved in 1947. These checks provide a nice range for the company, from the early organization (1872) to the waning of the Comstock and lumber business (1897). All checks were issued in Virginia City. 1) A pair of checks that may represent the early consolidation of the company. Both issued Sept. 6, 1872. First is to the Glenbrook Mill Co. for $10,094.78. Adhesive revenue, cut cancel, and light soiling. The second is issued to Yerington Bliss & Co. for $21,005.41. Cut cancel and soiling. Both signed Carson Lumber a/c for Bliss. 2) 1873 check issued to D.W. Parkhurst for $828.28. Signed by Bliss for Carson Lumber. Cut cancel, adhesive revenue and folds. 3) Three 1878 Carson and Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Co. checks, RN-G, all signed by Bliss. 4) An 1897 Savage Mining Co. check issued to the C and T.L. and F. Co. for $75. Signed by H.M. Gorham.
