Posssibly unique Nov. 1893 meal ticket from Cary House / Placerville, Cal. / James Borland - Proprietor / for Ralph Smith. 3 x 2 1/2 inches. Original owner was William Cary an East Coast businessman whose first business venture on the west cost was the Cary House Hotel.

Brick Hotel originally built and opened in 1857. Before that the Cary House was a wooden hotel that burned down in 1849. The wooden hotel operated during the height of the Gold Rush and served as a central location for supplies and also as a Gold Exchange. Ex: Ron Lerch Collection.
