Mount Xuebaoding literally means "Snowy Treasure Peak" in Mandarin Chinese. The mountain (18,333 ft) is located near the easternmost edge of the Tibetan Plateau. Mineral specimens are found on Mt. Xuebaoding in quartz vein-type tungsten-tin-beryllium (scheelite-cassiterite-beryl) deposits, hosted in intercalating schists and marble of the Lower Triassic Zagunao series. More than 40 mineralized veins are known on the southeast slope of the Xuebaoding massif, near Huya village. Individual veins are several tens of meters long and typically 0.5-1.5 m wide. This superb specimen features two large, lustrous, well-formed crystals of black colored cassiterite on a silvery muscovite mica matrix. Cassiterite (tin oxide) has been the chief tin ore throughout ancient history and remains the most important source of tin today. Dimensions (cm): 8.5 H x 12 W x 6 D. Location: Mt.
