Brown border with vignette showing a group of miners wearing headlamps. Many folds and creases. The Catalpa Mine was located on Carbonate Hill between the Crescent and Evening Stare. Joel Parker Whitney was a millionaire and very important figure in Colorado (and Wyoming, New Mexico and California) history. He made a fortune in the California Gold Rush as a merchant before heading to Colorado Territory in the 1860s. He authored an 1865 book on Colorado silver mining that many believe helped establish statehood.
