America's first ostrich farm opened by Edwin Cawston in 1886 outside Los Angeles with 50 birds he shipped from African to Texas, then put on a train to California. Cawston Ostrich Farm went on to became a famous tourist attraction. The bottom of this heavy, concave glass paperweight dice game has a patent date of Aug. 18th 1903. Under the glass is a circular label that reads: "Crawston Ostrich Farm" on the top edge of the circle and "South Pasadena, Cal." on the bottom with a sepia toned picture in the center of 4-5 ostriches. Highly collectible early advertising piece.
