Stock certificate from Cayuga Manufacturing Company, Montezuma, N.Y., issued in 1820. The Cayuga Manufacturing Company began salt manufacturing in 1810, just three years after the Cayuga Indians ceded all remaining land to New York State, and saltwater was discovered on a branch of Seneca River, now called Salt Creek. The Cayuga Manufacturing Company certificate is for 189 shares issued to Robert Swartwont on June 13, 1820, signed by President James B. Clarke, and Secretary. Ornate border, some handwriting on rear, very nice condition for age with four light folds and some wear on right and left sides. 8" x 5". Montezuma, Cayuga County, New York, population was 1,277 at the 2010 census.
