Very rare. Silver Mountain District, Amador County, California. Low No. 17, issued for 100 shares to Frank Cooper on May 18th, 1864. Signed by James Williams as president and Sam P (?) as secretary. Not cancelled. Great vignette at center right of centaur. Two adhesive revenue stamps at left. Printed by Bosqui & Co.'s Print, 517 Clay St. 5.5" x 9.5" Dog ear bottom left. Nicks top border. The Centaur was a claim identified as being in the Silver Mountain Mining District in 1864 [Calif. Division of Mines & Geology listing in "Mines and Mineral Resources of Alpine County" by William B. Clark] Frank Cooper was one of the original Commissioners charged with designating the election precincts in newly-formed Alpine Co. (1864 "Alpine County Bill"; see 1864 Aug 11; see also Board of Supervisors Minutes, Book "A", page 1; and see text of “Alpine County Bill” printed in 1864 July 30 MG).
