The California Central Railroad, incorporated on April 21, 1857, ran a 5 ft (1,524 mm) gauge line on one track between Folsom and Lincoln that was completed on October 31, 1861. On April 26, 1864 the Central Pacific Railroad opened to a line to Roseville that was 18 miles (29 km) long, where it made a junction with the California Central Railroad, operating from Folsom north to Lincoln.
