Lot of three. 1) 1879 letter on CPRR Land Department letterhead dated Oct. 31st, 1879 to Christopher Higgins esq. in Reno, Nevada. Letter is in regards to receiving payment (via Wells Fargo) for a land deed with CPRR, and though "the title appears to be perfect...for some reason or other the Commissioner of General Land Office has suspended the patent on the grounds of the prior claim of JP West." The CPRR books show West abandoned the land a long time ago. The letter states CPRR is thus returning the money until they can get everything sorted out, including sending their attorney to Washington to start an investigation. Who was Higgins? What land was he trying to but from the railroad? 2) 1879 Shipping Receipt for the Carlin Station, DW Earl & Co. (noted merchants in Sacramento, Reno, and elsewhere). Package is one box from T. Desmond in Virginia City. Stains. 3) 1876 Receipt for Prescott, Scott & Co. for shipment of a spur wheel to the Savage Mine in Virginia City (via Reno).
