Specimen $1,000 bond. August 1929. Red orange border, black print, and vignette of Collis P. Huntington, one of the "Big Four" (along with Stanford, Hopkins, and Crocker) who founded the railroad. ABN. Stamped Specimen on signature lines. Also hole punched. 9.5 x 13.25" Stub attached. Inc. 1861. Chartered by U.S. Congress in 1862 to build a railroad eastwards from Sacramento, California, to complete the western part of the "First Transcontinental Railroad" in North America. Ceased operation in 1885 when it was acquired by Southern Pacific Railroad as a leased line.
