Gold Hill MD. Central Park Mining Company, Number 15 for 20 shares to JVP Perry in 1864. Signed by Joseph Loryea and Captain J. H. Malett. It was issued on February 13, 1864 making it a territorial stock certificate. It is a very early number in 15. The stock clearly states that one share equals one foot. But it also is the biggest mystery. The 1864 Nevada Directory lists the mine with 1000's of feet of work completed. The Virginia Bulletin on February 4, 1864 (only nine days before this stock was purchased) says that 30' of Central Pacific Mining Company sold for $22.50. Another 10' was offered at $21.00. (The stock clearly sates that one foot equals one share! This Stock certificate shares the names of three of Virginia City's more interesting people. The first is JVB Perry. Described as a, "Big, powerful, good natured mostly; but terrible when aroused!"Joseph Loryea was a saloon keeper turned stock broker. He wrote the first mining directory of the Comstock in 1864. J. H. Mallett was a stable owner, Meat market proprietor and stock broker with ownership in at least 15 Comstock mining companies. Information on the mine and people included.
