This is a ceremonial stone or gorget with two perforated holes for cordage. At 5 in./ 127mm X 1.75 in./ 44 mm, is a gray/green slate with polished and rounded corners. The perforations appear to be made with two different drill sizes for a tapered hole. These stones are more frequently found in the Ohio River valley to mid-south region of the United States and as far west as Oklahoma. This one was found in Parke County, Indiana. The real purpose of these stones is unknown to scholars today. From the Bracken collection where two of these stones appear to have been sourced from the same material. Please see photos for details.
