This cover is from 1871 to 1875 as shown by the free frank cover. The top right says Chaffee M. C. It is addressed to his daughter Fannie who married U. S. Grant's second son. Jerome Bonaparte Chaffee was a mining man, politician, businessman, mill man, banker, and one of Colorado’s first two senators. He was a mover and shaker in the 1860s and ’70s. Yet he quickly receded into history after his death in March 1886. He was a member of Congress when he represented Colorado from 1871 to 1875. When Colorado became a state he was a United States Senator. until 1879.
