Longitudinal Section of the Champion Gold Mine, located in the Nevada City district in western Nevada County. Gold was first mined in this district in 1849, by 1865 the output was averaging $500,000 per year, later ranging from $300,000 to $600,000. The Champion and Providence mines were the major producers during these years, and in 1902 the Champion owners bought the Providence. The total output of the district is unknown, but estimated between $50 and $70 million. Measures 41.5" x 15" with 3" tear in center of left edge.
