Three-inch diameter copper medallion struck in tribute of Charles E. Barber and bearing an image of Theodore Roosevelt on the obverse. The reverse reads at the top: // CHARLES E. BARBER / THE SIXTH CHIEF ENGRAVER OF THE / U. S. MINT / MDCCCXL-MCMXVII //. The shield at the center reads: // . . . UNEXCEEDED AS / A STEEL ENGRAVER, / HE CONTINUED HIS FATHER'S WORK AND / DESIGNED MORE COINS / THAN ANY ARTIST. . . //. Below this it continues: // ON THE OBVERSE IS / DEPICTED HIS SPLEN- / DID MEDALLIC OF / THEO. ROOSEVELT //. And below that is // ONE / STELLA // in the lower point of a five-pointed star. Below that point is a / B /. Surrounding the star are fanciful characters and an American-style eagle at the top. As engraved on the edge, the piece was struck by the Metal Arts Company of Rock, New York, not Medallic Art Company. In tiny letters at the nine o'clock position appears: // COIN MEDALS / (C) 1962 / T. JOHNSON // and at the three o'clock position is: // R. SCHABEL //, possibly the names of the designer and of the engraver of this medallion. Weight is 180 grams.
