This medal was issued to commemorate and honor Charles E. Barber, the sixth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. His father, Williams Barber was the fifth Chief Engraver, and upon his death in 1879, he was succeeded by Charles. He held the position until his death in 1917. On the obverse is a depiction of Theodore Roosevelt as Barber envisoned him in a 1907 assay medal. The reverse shows depictions of the "Barber Head" and other symbols relating to Barber. 212 grams of .999 fine silver. In original box with paperwork. State: City: Date:1962 ID#44507
