Front cover presents illustration of woman writing in her journal beneath Title and Author. Oversize. 17 x 13 inches. Portfolio style publication. Consists of 5 booklets (Parts I - 5). 68 pp total. Many B&W text engravings throughout. Also, only 6 of 15 original plates still present. Part 1 includes the title page, list of plates, list of illustrations, one-page introduction, and the first essay. Each Part presents a different essay. Each Part includes one or more plates. Each plate is preceded by a printed tissue guard with the title of the plate and the artist's name. Plates still remaining in this collection are: A Wounded Enemy/Howard Pyle, At Noon Time/WT Smedley, The Rower/Winslow Homer, Napoleon at Waterloo/RF Zogbaum, Engraving from Nature/Elbridge Kingsley, and That Delicious Moment/Charles Dana Gibson.
