Four pieces that tell the story of one Civil War soldier, L.D. Fletcher. 1) Medal is 1.5" diameter. Obverse: an allegorical woman placing a wreath on a soldier's head. Below: "1861-1865." Reverse: "THE/ STATE OF OHIO/ TO/ L.D. FLETCHER/ VETERAN/ CO. F. 49 REGT/ OHIO VOLUNTEER/ INFTY." Maker's mark at bottom: Tiffany & Co. The medal is attached to two 2.25" long ribbons in red, white, and blue. 2) Along with the medal is a one page letter. Dateline: Saddle Creek, Near San Antonio Texas. Sept. 15, 1865. The letter certifies that Fletcher was discharged at Chattanooga on Jan. 21, 1864. Signed by J.R. B____, Col. 49 Ohio Vol. Infty. 3) Discharge certificate for L.D. Fletcher dated Nov. 25, 1865. Has pen notations on certificate mentioning Fletcher was wounded at the Battle of Picket's Mills May 27th, 1864. Measures 8.5" x 10.75" with folds and toning. 4) Volunteer Descriptive List and Account of Pay and Clothing for Fletcher. August 23rd, 1864. According to information on the document, Fletcher was born in Sandusky Co., Ohio, and worked as a printer before enlisting.He re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer. Folds, foxing, and separation along folds. Measures 10.5" x 21"
